Garmin Marine Network

Connect BoatKit to a Garmin Marine Network to discover supported radar, sonar, and camera sources for your charts and saved views. You need an Ethernet adapter on the BoatKit host connected to that network, and administrator access to BoatKit settings.

Compatibility varies by model, firmware, and installation. A complete supported model list is not yet documented; confirm your equipment's compatibility before planning an installation around it. BoatKit's integration is independently implemented and is not affiliated with Garmin.

Set up discovery

  1. Add Garmin Marine Network in Settings > Integrations and open its settings.
  2. Select the Ethernet adapter connected to the Garmin network and enable the integration.
  3. Check the adapter and listener status. Address or connection errors must be resolved before discovery can work.
  4. In Devices List, select Refresh to request device identity and software details, refresh sonar inventory, and search for cameras.
  5. Enable the cameras you want to use with their list controls. Camera names and enable choices are shared with Equipment > Cameras.

Use the ordinary radar, sonar, and camera equipment settings for naming and source selection. Advanced interface control and diagnostic options should only be changed for an installation whose network behavior has been confirmed.

Confirm it is working

Discovered devices appear in Devices List with their available names and connection status. BoatKit requests missing identity details from active peers, including devices that were already running when the integration was enabled. Model and software information appear when the device supplies them; a device may leave other details, such as its serial number, unavailable.

An identified or connected scanner can still be in standby. Check imagery while the scanner is transmitting using your normal onboard controls. Cameras enabled in the list become selectable in camera view items.

Local and remote use

Onboard discovery and local viewing work without an Internet connection. Remote imagery also requires the vessel's BoatKit Cloud connection and an appropriate access setting under Settings > High-Bandwidth Data Streaming. Radar, sonar, and camera streaming have separate access settings.

If a source is missing

  • Check that the selected adapter is connected to the Garmin network and that the source is powered on.
  • Use Refresh if identity details or cameras are missing. A refresh requests discovery information; it does not turn a radar transmitter on.
  • A saved device can remain listed while it is offline. Check the physical source and, for sonar, the chartplotter or other device providing it.
  • If imagery works onboard but fails remotely, check BoatKit Cloud connectivity and the corresponding high-bandwidth streaming access setting.
