View chart sources and licences

The lower-right corner of a chart shows credits for the data providers contributing to the displayed area. The list can change as you pan, zoom, or change visible chart layers. No separate setup is needed.

Check the sources

  1. Open a chart and move to the area you want to inspect.
  2. Read the provider credits in the lower-right corner.
  3. Select Map data to open the fuller source and licence notices.
  4. Select a provider or source link to read its published terms.

Providers are listed once even when several of their charts contribute. Credits follow the geometry being displayed, including lower-detail charts used while detailed coverage is unavailable. They do not list every chart saved on your device.

Confirm it is working

When you move between areas with different contributing providers, the credits update with the displayed chart. Changing a survey layer's visibility can also change the list. A region can contain several providers, so seeing more than one credit is expected.

Credits and stored notices remain available with saved charts while offline. Opening a provider's external website requires an internet connection.

Older overview charts

Some older overview charts do not contain the original providers' coverage information. For these charts, BoatKit conservatively retains the OpenStreetMap credit and explains the missing coverage information under Map data, alongside the other possible source notices. More detailed chart tiles can still show their own source credits.

If this notice appears, it describes the attribution metadata available in that overview. It does not indicate a chart download failure. A chart update rebuilt from the detailed inputs is needed to supply the missing overview source information.

Source credits identify contributing data. They do not establish survey accuracy, navigation approval, or your entitlement to download a chart.
